Spirit's Healing Hand

  During last month's full moon ceremony at The Haven for Spiritual Travelers, directed by Reverend "Red" Duke, my son's allergies kicked in and his breath became labored, as a painful asthma attack caught him by surprise. It was a beautiful evening, a small crowd of people gathered in the candle-lit wooded yard, a traditional circle fire blazing before us.

Red invited Ben, my son, up to the front where he performed a simple healing, calling upon spirit energies to calm and restore Ben's breathing. Moments later Ben was breathing normally again, relaxed, able to enjoy the rest of the evening.

Red Duke's ability to heal manifested back in 1968 while he was working as a carpenter at Broward County Airport. He was struck between the shoulders while fixing a door-jamb. "The Hammer in my hand leapt upwards and then fell to the ground," describes Red, "The nails came out of my nail belt and circled round my body." Staggering outside, Red encountered his friend Harry, who described a white milky substance oozing from Red's solar plexus. "I saw the clothes on Harry's chest disappear, and the flesh open in front of me. I saw a hole in his chest and I watched as it closed up before me." After that everything returned to normal, and Harry told Red about the hernia that had been diagnosed in his esophagus. The hernia went away and vanished without a trace.

Red spent the next 12 months reading voraciously and learning how to channel these newfound energies. Today, Red effortlessly detects sickness and disease. Nothing escapes him, not a thought, a discomfort, or a serious illness. "It's a burden at times," he says, "to know that someone standing in front of me is sick. I can't always approach them and say, here let me help you. I have to ask permission first, and not everyone is receptive."

Born of a Native American mother, 3/4 Cherokee and 1/4 Irish, and a Scottish/Irish father, Red grew up in Fort Myers and learned much about the healing powers of the spirit. When he was endowed with these energies himself, he began a long search for the meaning of life. 73 years old now, he's encountered and healed everything from brain tumors, to cancer, to heart disease. He is always available, re-charged and re-fueled by the call of someone asking for help. A kind, gentle-man, he has learned that the Source flows through him and that there is an infinite source of healing available for all.
